5 CUTS to improve your Drive and Kick Offense
Hey Coach,
I have just released a new video where I go over 5 cuts to improve your Drive and Kick game. Whether you run Dribble Drive Motion Offense (DDM) or Drive and Space these 5 cuts will help improve your North/South attack you are trying to get to cause the help and put the defense in a decision-making mode stay or help.
Each Cut I have gone over in the video can be used for various reasons.
Fan Cut
When my slot players (1 and 4) are my best two players and I want to keep the ball in their hands and let them play off each other, I prefer to employ the fan cut. It's also a different cut than a lot of teams don't use in their Drive and Kick game, and it puts the point guard or other slot help defender in a tough decision on whether to help on the drive or risk giving up a three, making it a difficult closeout for them.
Fingers Cut
This cut is excellent against switching or packline teams and creating a triple gap for you to attack. On the North/South Drive, it lets them to go either way and puts the corner defender on an island.
Button Hook
This is utilized against teams who want to play packline defense or faceguard your guy. It forces their defender, who is defending them near the paint, to make the difficult option of helping or staying. Almost everyone has been instructed not to allow the ball to enter the paint, so this is a wonderful opportunity to see how they will defend it. For a wide-open 3 or closeout situation, they help cut out opposite and reverse pivot.
Fingers Pinch / Through Pinch
This cut to the pinch post area is great versus teams that are being physical with your slots out front and can get them the ball back on a handoff to get downhill to the basket.
