A Favorite Transition Drill for Small Numbers – What’s Yours?
Hey Coach,
Hope the offseason is treating you well!
I’ve been reviewing my drills and planning ahead for next season. Last year, I had a smaller team and didn’t get to play 5-on-5 as much as I’d like. So, I’ve been exploring ways to keep things competitive and game-like with limited numbers.
One transition drill I liked – and plan to use again – is a simple but effective combo:
3-on-2 into 4-on-3
All you need is 7 players.
It’s great for teaching quick decisions, defensive communication, and building transition habits on both ends.
Whoever shoots gets to go on offense again if you only have 7 players the other 3 would be defense to reset the drill.
I’d love to hear from you –
What are your favorite transition drills when you’re working with small numbers?
Let’s keep sharing and helping each other grow.
Also, if you have a clip or diagram to accompany your drill, send it over—I might feature a few in a future email!
