NBA Teams using Dribble Drive Motion Offense Concepts
Several teams using DDM Spacing to create scoring opportunities
As a Dribble Drive Motion offense enthusiast, I always find myself intently studying the ways in which teams utilize the Dribble Drive Motion (DDM) offense to create opportunities for attacking the basket.
During the playoffs, I noticed several teams have begun incorporating 5-out DDM spacing and 4-out-1-in spacing into their offensive strategies.
The three ways I have seen their spacing are 4 out 1 dunker spot (left), 4 out 1 in stretch spot (middle), 5 out spacing (right).
Phoenix Suns - 5 out Double Drag
The Suns run a double drag and then get into 4 out 1 DDM spacing principles with Ayton rolling to the opposite post spot and Durant dragging behind the penetration and corners filled.
Los Angeles Lakers - Pitch
The Lakers are in 4 out 1 with Rui Hachimura in Dunker spot and run Pitch action back to Anthony Davis and Rui flows into 5 out DDM spacing by spacing to corner to prevent the help from his defender.
Philadelphis 76ers - Jet Pitch
The 76ers run a jet cut, my terminology for a cut from corner to stretch or slot area into a cleared corner pitch for Maxey to get downhill. Really like this action and something new I have not seen yet.
New York Knicks - Pitch into a step up ball screen
The Knicks used a “pitch” and then a step up ball screen to create the down hill attack and spaced to DDM 4 out 1 in.
Boston Celtics - Stretch Ghost
The Celtics start out in 5 out DDM spacing and run a ghost screen from (stretch spot) wing player Brown. Then he cuts to the dunker spot getting them into 4 out 1 DDM spacing. Smart attacks the gap and they space accordingly.
Sacramento Kings - Corner Ghost
The Kings are in 4 out 1 dunker spot spacing and they run a ghost from the opposite corner player to create the gap and they space off the drive accordingly.
