Hey System Basketball Fans,
Let's explore some plays from the Horns Series used by the New York Liberty, one of the top contenders for the WNBA championship this season.
With Horns actions, they position their players strategically to maximize their team's performance.
In this initial video, Sabrina and Stewart, acting as the screeners, create a predicament for the defense. Should the defense choose to assist, it will result in a pick-and-pop scenario since both players can shoot and drive with the ball.
Clip 2 - Vandersloot passes to a player at the elbow and executes a "Get" to drive downhill.
Clip 3 - The Liberty went to their double big lineup and played High- Low out of the Horns alignment
Clip 4 - The Liberty put Stewart in the playmaker spot and moved their PG Vandersloot to the elbow to set the ball screen and Jones set a flare. Stewart read the double team and hit Vandersloot on flare for a downhill attack off the long closeout.
Clip 5 - In this clip, Sabrina, who is currently leading the league in 3 point makes, is the ball screening spot in the horns alignment. However, Stewart goes for a layup instead of passing to her. With a great shooter like Sabrina on the court, the defense is faced with a difficult decision: do they help out on defense or stay put? Despite the tough shot, Sabrina was still open in the opposite corner for a 3-pointer.
Clip 6 This is a counter. of the Horns Get action where you can turn in to a 45-ball screen action between Jones and Stewart.
As you can see, the horns series that New York Liberty runs is not complex. They move their players to different spots and run various little quick-hitting actions to get make the defense make difficult decisions.
