Shooting is the # 1 Skill in Basketball
Hey π there,
I believe that shooting is the # 1 skill in Basketball. I have never heard a coach say βI have too many shooters.β
Typically it is usually the opposite. I donβt have enough shooters.
Shooting solves lots of problems for coaches. Since I started hosting clinics I have had several coaches come and discuss the topic of shooting.
As a high school coach and an avid coach that studies the game. I believe that shooting is very important in determining the outcome of the games.
Take a look at your games this season that has come down to one or two possessions. If you look at the box score and check the Free throw stat column typically the team that made the most FTβs win.
If you add in 3 point shooting to mix when teams win this battle as well they win. I was watching the Boston Celtics game last night. They were outmatched in the post by Joel Embiid but they made 25 3 pointers with 10 different players making a 3.
I have had the following coaches come on System Basketball Clinics and discuss their methods of how they teach shooting.
James Pauley - It all starts at the Free Throw Line
James is not just a professional shooting coach, he is an elite world champion shooter himself.
Doc Scheppler -Corrective Measures in Shooting
Coach Scheppler is known as the King of the Hop, he believes in the hop shooting method. He goes over in detail in this clinic going over his 3 Sβs (Spring, Snap, and Sweep).
Here is a sample of his clinic
Matt Williamson -Systematic Approach to Shooting
The owner of Pro Shot Shooting System discusses his ART shooting method
Tim Heuer - SEDRS Shooting System
Has some different views on shooting on hand placement, discusses determining your dominant eye shooting, and more.
All of these clinics are inside the System Basketball Membership Club along with over 100 more on various coaching topics to improve your craft.
