Ways to Attack the No Middle Defense
Film Study of how teams attacked Texas Tech and Baylor
No Middle defense is a defensive strategy and none do it better than Texas Tech and Baylor.
The purpose of the no middle is to keep the ball on the sideline and to make it difficult to reverse the ball and get the ball to the middle of the floor.

I just recently did a deep dive film study on these two programs’ defense and how teams attack it.
Some of the most common ways teams elected to attack it were:
Baseline Drives
Iverson Cuts
Ball Screens
Screening Actions
Here are a few examples of actions of how teams attacked the No Middle Defenses from Baylor and Texas Tech.
Using screens was one of the popular ways Oklahoma State combined a ball screen with a baseline screen to create an advantage situation versus Baylor.
Duke used side ball screens versus Texas Tech and rejected to get 2 on the ball to gain an advantage for Banchero to become a playmaker.
Kansas used Dribble Handoff against the switching no middle defense of Texas Tech and split the switch.
As you know the game trends so if you have not faced this defense will you be prepared? Does your offense have built-in counters to attack this?
Being a high school coach and knowing this I did a deep dive into Baylor and Texas Tech. I did hours of film study on how teams attacked these two teams.
They are both no middle-based but are slightly different. Texas Tech switches everything at all five positions and Baylor does not seem to switch all five positions.
I did a clinic the other night and went over ways I liked to attack no middle defenses and showed from hours of film study the ways college programs attack it.
